6 THINGS TO DO IN PALAU SARDINIA

The best thing to do while in Palau, Sardinia is to forget the rest of the world and soak in the sun and lie on the powdery sand. When you are not being a beach bum, you will find that there are many fun things to do in this idyllic seaside town of Gallura bordering the Emerald Coast.

Beach in Palau

1. Visit Arzachena’s Archaeological Park of Costa Smeralda. This is is one of Sardina’s most important parks and its biggest. There are no less than eight pre-historical monuments going back almost 5000 years in history.

2. Get a taste of Sardina’s best wines on wine tours to picturesque vineyards at Vigne Surrau, Cantina delle Vigne di Piero Mancini and Tenute Olbios (Olbia). A fascinating and delicious activity!

3. Attend the Italian film festival at Tavolara, if you happen to be there in July. While you are on Tavolara island off the northeastern coast of Sardinia, enjoy scuba diving, it is highly recommended here. There are also beaches at every end of the island, so you’ll be spoiled for choice.

4. Venture into the quaint village of San Pantaleo at the centre of Gallura and shop for souvenirs. The village is set in a background of hills against the coastline. During summer, there are several festivals that offer a rich experience of Sardinian culture. There’s also a weekly market where you can get all the souvenirs you can desire and some precious, rare items as well.

5. Live it up at Porto Rotondo, a luxury village by the sea built around one of the most famous marinas in the area. You’ll never get enough of the magnificent views of the Costa Smeralda including hidden coves you can go exploring. You can also go shopping at the stylish boutiques, enjoy your dinner and wine at the sea-front restaurants or the cafe bars from where you can watch the yachts as they come and go from the port.

6. White sand is nothing new… but pink? See it on Budelli Island at Maddalena Archipelago, 21 miles away and just 15 minutes away from Palau Sardinia. You can also see the crystal clear water of Spargi and Santa Maria Islands.

Bonus! – Head to the Navy museum in La Maddalena and the Museum of Garibaldi. The islands are located among the Straits of Bonifacio along the north-eastern coast of Sardinia and can be reached by ferry from Palau in 15 minutes.
